MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester fire responded to a reported building fire at 96 Prospect Street on Monday morning around 1:28 a.m.
Firefighters arrived finding moderate smoke in the area. After further investigation, a moderate to heavy smoke condition was located coming from the first floor of 96 Prospect St.
District Chief Maxx Chiasson was notified of a female occupant in the first-floor rear apartment. As hose lines were being stretched a primary search of the building was initiated. Members located a female victim and she was removed from the apartment through a window.
A primary assessment of the victim determined that she had succumbed to injuries sustained in the fire according to District Chief Chiasson.
The fire was brought under control at 1:56 a.m.
The New Hampshire Fire Marshal's Office and New Hampshire Office of the Medical Examiner were requested to the scene. Manchester police secured the scene with crime scene tape.
The NH Fire Marshal's Office and Manchester Fire Investigators remained on the scene completing the investigation.
The building at 96 Prospect has 3 apartments, and it is believed that the residents of two of the apartments would be able to return to their apartments. The damage to the building is estimated to be about $15,000
Initial information from sources is that the fire may have involved someone smoking that was using or near an oxygen generating device.
