SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — Santa Clara County opened a $6 million center to serve as a sanctuary for victims of child abuse and their families.
The concept of the 11,000-square foot Child Advocacy Center (CAC) was conceived two decades ago, according to a news release, and was completed by the district attorney's office with help from a partnership with the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and Santa Clara County Valley Medical Center, along with other local officials and organizations.
The county hopes for the center to be able to help prevent, identify and prosecute child abuse cases, in addition to counseling children and providing medical care. It is expected to serve more than 300 children and their families in its first year and bring a "national model of excellence to children in our communities," according to a promotional video.
"When children and their families need advice and advocacy, medical help, a kind ear, and protection," District Attorney Jeff Rosen said. "They need a team. When they need us the most, we will be here for them at the CAC."
The center is located at 455 O'Connor Drive in San Jose.
