Description
JOLIET, IL — A two-story house on Joliet's far west side near Theodore Street sustained heavy damage on Saturday afternoon. Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said the blaze happened around 12:15 p.m. and that cigarettes were to blame. The family that lived at the house were alerted by their neighbors and they escaped with any injuries.
Joliet Fire Department trucks from stations 8, 9 and 10 responded to 1617 Stanton Lane to put out the fire.
Joliet's firefighters saw the outside of the house on fire when they arrived at the emergency.
"Fire crews were able to keep the fire from entering the living areas of the home, while extinguishing the fire, allowing the home to remain habitable," the Joliet fire chief's said. "The fire was investigated by Joliet Fire Department investigators, and it was determined the cause was improperly discarded smoking materials."
