NOVATO, CA — The city of Novato is considering a state program that would house the homeless population, The Marin Independent Journal reports.
The North Bay city's effort last year to secure state funding to house the homeless under Project Homekey last year did not end well, as city officials pushed back against a county plan to purchase Inn Marin and Suites in Novato, according to the report.
The move would have wiped more than $300,000 in hotel tax revenue from the cash-strapped city, the report said.
The city will hold a publish discussion later this month on the implications of "Project Homekey 2.0" later this month according to the report.
