Press release from the Contra Costa County Public Library: It's National Volunteer Week April 18 – April 24, 2021 April 18, 2021 Submitted by CCCL_CatherineO Helping others is the cornerstone of volunteerism. Contra Costa County Library has had over 9,000 volunteers in recent years helping library staff to keep our libraries in top working condition. During this pandemic, our community libraries continue to have a hold on all in library volunteer positions, which is bittersweet. We want our volunteers to return only when it is safe, and at the same time we miss you all so much! In the meantime, there are still non-profit organizations in need of volunteers. VolunteerMatch - Where Volunteering Begins is a great starting point. Our very own Project Second Chance is currently looking for adult volunteers to train volunteer tutors to deliver basic literacy instruction to people who read or write below the 6th grade level. For more information, call (925) 691-3960 or email [email protected] to be a student or to volunteer. In celebration of National Volunteer Week, please take a moment to enjoy our new featured booklist For the Love of Libraries, in honor of our volunteers and these awesome quotes on volunteerism: "Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." – Martin Luther King, Jr. "Love cannot remain by itself – it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action, and that action is service." – Mother Teresa Stay safe, take care! List created by CCCL_CatherineO Public libraries usually have volunteers who assist library staff by providing time and special skills. Library volunteers love the library, and we love you. Here are a few books about libraries and those who love libraries. View Full List This press release was produced by the Contra Costa County Public Library.
