MARINA DEL REY, CA — A pretrial hearing is scheduled Tuesday for Haena Kealia Worthing, the former stepdaughter of a Marina del Rey man who was killed and whose burned body was found in Joshua Tree.
Worthing and co-defendants John Schiefer and Shavonne Webster are charged with murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Worthing, 45, of Marina del Rey, and co-defendants John Schiefer, 33, of Nipomo and Shavonne Webster, 41, are all charged with one count of murder, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Deputy District Attorney Keri Modder said the criminal complaint includes an allegation that Schiefer and Webster used a hammer as a deadly and dangerous weapon.
William Webb, 72, was allegedly murdered by the three defendants on Aug. 15, the prosecutor said. Webb's burned body was found the next day in the dry lake bed near Sunway Road and Rosehedge Avenue in the unincorporated area near the Joshua Tree National Park. Webb was Worthing's step-father.
Investigators said that Worthing, a former talent agent living in Marina del Rey, was fighting with Webb to stop the $2.6-million sale of his five-bedroom home at 131 Lighthouse Mall, according to reports.
If convicted as charged, Worthing could face up to 25 years to life in state prison, while Webster and Schiefer could face a maximum of 26 years to life in state prison, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
