ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving an escaped dog, valuable car parts stolen, a loud noise, an error message scam and a domestic disturbance. Here is information from the latest police reports: Dog bites dog A resident in the 900 block of South Stratford Avenue was cited for her German shepherd having no city dog license and not having a "no rabies" tag. The police issued the citations after a person reported a dog was bitten by the German shepherd, which escaped from the resident's yard. The report was referred to DuPage County Animal Control. Valuable car parts stolen A catalytic converter was stolen from a silver 2005 Toyota Prius overnight Wednesday in the 200 block of North Myrtle Avenue. Between 11 a.m. Wednesday and 9:30 p.m. Friday, an exhaust system was cut and the catalytic converter stolen from a car in the parking lot at Elmhurst University's Dinkmeyer Hall on Prospect Avenue. In the last year, the metals in catalytic converters have become a lot more valuable, prompting an increase in such thefts. Credit card confusion A resident in the 600 block of Bryan Street told police Friday that another person took her credit card and used it without her permission. The other person denied using the credit card, saying the woman often hides items and cannot find them. Loud noise A woman told police that as she drove west on Eggleston about 5:30 p.m. Friday, she heard a loud banging sound from the passenger side of her car. Upon inspection, she found glass shards and two golf ball-sized rocks on the ground. A glass panel between the front and rear passenger windows was shattered. Error message scam A resident in the 700 block of North Cambridge Avenue told police that after receiving an error message displayed on her computer Friday, she called the provided telephone number in an attempt to fix the problem. She gave an unknown person access to her computer and provided a picture of one of her checks for payment. Once she determined it to be a scam, she froze her checking account and contacted her credit card companies. Fugitive A man sped away in a dark sport motorcycle after an attempted traffic stop about 11 p.m. Saturday at Route 83 and North. He was last seen headed west on Interstate 290 from northbound Route 83. He was described as white, 20 to 25 years old, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, and wearing black clothing and a white helmet with black stickers. Domestic disturbance Police responded to a domestic disturbance at 10 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of East Fremont Avenue. A woman said she was involved in an argument with her husband. The argument never turned physical. The woman left the house without any problems.
