Position Title:Part-time Junior High Language Arts Teacher (Bilingual Spanish/English A Plus) (Summer Employment)Department:The Outreach Community Center in Carol StreamThe Outreach Community Center in Carol Stream is a multi-purpose, neighborhood resource center serving a low-income, ethnically diverse neighborhood. Services include counseling, casework, mentoring, community development and after-school programs for children and youth. Job Responsibilities:The Junior High Language Arts Teacher is responsible for teaching a classroom of up to 10 students, five days per week in the summer program. Duties include classroom instruction, conducting individual academic assessments for students along with goals for academic improvement; working with staff team to supervise students on weekly field trips throughout the summer; maintaining center-wide standard of classroom behavior within the classroom; and communicating to parents. Requirements:A passion for working with junior high students; Bachelor’s degree in Education, English or a related field; previous classroom teaching or group experience with adolescents focused around language arts or literacy; previous experience with curriculum development and lesson planning strongly preferred; a passion for reading and ability to engage and motivate junior high students to read; sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of students from low-income families and culturally diverse backgrounds. A current, valid IL driver’s license along with a good driving record is a plus. Spanish language skills a plus.
