DARIEN, IL — Darien is watching for speeders on 67th Street and considering other measures it can take to control the problem, officials say. The city has posted signs on the street that show drivers their speeds as they get near, City Administrator Bryon Vana told Patch in an email. Such signs are also on Manning Road, Clarendon Hills Road and Beller Drive. On 67th, the focus on speeders is between Clarendon Hills Road and Cass Avenue and even more specifically, between Tennessee and Richmond avenues, Vana said. At Monday's City Council meeting, Alderman Tom Chlystek said a resident sent him a video of a person driving nearly 40 mph over the 25 mph speed limit. "I know we put up a sign there. The police chief is doing additional patrols," Chlystek said. "Is there any next steps that can be done? Have we done what we can do?" Darien Police Chief Greg Thomas said the city may want to look at "traffic-calming" measures. He did not say specifically indicate which measures, but they can include speed humps and roundabouts. He said the police are already doing a lot of traffic enforcement on 67th Street, but many drivers are disobeying the speed limit. "We'll have to look at what the next steps are," he said.
