LAGUNA BEACH, CA — The Laguna Beach Police Department has joined with the Orange County Chiefs of Police and Sheriff's Association in their condemnation of bigotry and hate crimes against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. This month, Laguna Beach's Police Chief Robert Thompson added his department to the long list of police chiefs who condemn hate crimes and bigotry on their watch. "We condemn hate crimes and bigotry acts against these communities and remain committed to our role in protecting these individuals from hateful acts," writes Chief Jon T. Lewis of the Newport Beach Police Department." Lewis is also the President of the Orange County Chiefs of Police & Sheriff's Association. He expressed that those in the association join to stand up against attacks and the fear and pain they have caused. "We urge everyone to come together in solidarity with the AAPI community, and to do everything we can to prevent hate and discrimination," he added. Along with the Newport Beach Police Department, Sheriff Don Barnes of the Orange County Sheriff Department also promised to stand against hate and bigotry in the cities they serve and protect. Other police chiefs who joined in solidarity included: Los Alamitos Police Chief Eric Nunez, Seal Beach Police Chief Phillip Gonshak, CSU Fullerton Police Chief Ray Aguirre; La Palma Police Chief Terry Kim; Orange Police Chief Tom Kisela; Westminster Police Interim Chief Roy Campos; Cypress Police Chief Mark Lauderback; Anaheim Police Chief Jorge Cisneros; Placentia Police Chief Darin Lenyi; Garden Grove Police Chief Thomas DaRe; Fullerton Police Chief Bob Dunn; La Habra Police Chief Jerry Price; Costa Mesa Police Chief Bryan Glass; Orange County Probation Chief Officer Steve Sentman; Fountain Valley Police Chief Matthew Sheppard; Tustin Police Chief Stu Greenberg; Buena Park Police Chief Corey Sianez; UC Irvine Police Chief Elizabeth Griffin; Irvine Police Chief Mike Hamel; Huntington Beach Interim Police Chief Julian Harvey, Santa Ana Police Chief David Valentin; Brea Police Acting Chief Adam Hawley; Bureau of Investigation Chief Paul Walters and Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer.
