Police Officer Saves Life Of Baby Who Stopped Breathing

RICHMOND HEIGHTS, OH — A baby who stopped breathing a few days ago is back home with his mother, something that might not have been possible had it not been for the quick-thinking actions of Richmond Heights police Sgt. Greg Patterson. Patterson told WJW the baby, Jacoby, had a blue face and wasn't breathing when he arrived at the home on Monticello Boulevard Friday night. The sergeant started chest compressions and then flipped the baby over to do back blows to get him breathing again, the television station reported. It was a moment of relief when the baby started breathing again. "Once you hear that cry and see that it is breathing, it is definitely a relief," Patterson said. "He saved his life," the Richmond Heights Police Department said on Facebook, adding that young Jacoby was back home and doing well on Monday. Maryanne Rucker, Jacoby's mother, is grateful for the sergeant's actions. She said doctors at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland said Jacoby may have choked on some milk. "Tears was flowing out my eyes and I couldn't stop crying at all, but I was so thankful that he grabbed him just in time," she told WJW.
