FREMONT, CA — The Fremont Police Department released body-cam video of a deadly officer-involved shooting that happened on March 24. The shooting happened on Highway 84 at Ardenwood Boulevard after a short police chase. The officer was trying to stop the vehicle because it had been reported stolen. The driver, 34-year-old Joshua James Gloria of Oakland, was also wanted for an armed robbery that was committed in San Francisco. The suspect struck several other vehicles while fleeing and pulled over because his vehicle became disabled. According to video subtitles, "The suspect immediately exited his vehicle with a firearm while running toward and shooting at Officer Burch, who was still on his motorcycle. "Officer Burch was forced to jump off his motorcycle and retreat down the shoulder embankment while the suspect continued to fire at him." Officer Burch returned fire, hitting the suspect as he straddled the officer's motorcycle, which was equipped with a rifle. The police department published the video on YouTube. WARNING: the video is graphic and should not be viewed by children. Following the shooting, the San Jose Police Department informed Fremont Police that it had an arrest warrant for Gloria for attempted homicide and for being a felon in possession of a gun. San Jose Police allege that Gloria shot a man several times, including in the back of the head while the victim was on the ground. Despite his injuries, the victim survived. The Fremont incident is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol because it happened in that agency's jurisdiction.
