Planters look best when you combine plants with three different habits:
Salvia
Thrillers are usually vertical, such as phormium, canna, calla pennisetum or upright fuchsia. For cool season displays use kale, swiss chard, or Juncus. Fillers tend to be horizontal or weaving, such as heliotrope, osteospermum, petunia, coleus or impatiens. For cool season displays use pansies or violas. Spillers are cascading, such as helichrysum, ipomea or callibrachoa.
