MOORESVILLE, NC — Fire investigators in Mooresville are asking for community tips after they say three fires were set in the Mill Village community in the span of 12 days. Three outbuildings and their contents were destroyed in the fires, and on April 9, three occupied homes were also damaged significantly, MFD said Tuesday. The fires have been determined to be arson and are now under investigation by Mooresville Police Department, as well as Mooresville Fire-Rescue. "Anytime there's a fire and it leaves a person's possessions damaged or destroyed, it's a terrible event," Mooresville Fire Marshal Geoff Woolard said. "What's even more concerning with these fires is that one of them could have been a tragedy because the three homes that were damaged had people inside at the time of the fire. The worst part is that someone started these fires on purpose." MPD is also urging residents to make sure outbuildings and storage sheds are kept locked when not in use. "Residents, especially in the Mill Village community, should inspect their storage buildings for any damage or missing items," MFD said. "Please contact the Police Department to report any thefts that may have occurred." Investigators said that anyone with information about the fires is asked to call Mooresville-South Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-658-9056. Tips may also be submitted anonymously online here.
