Press release from the Office of Congressman John Garamendi: April 15, 2021 WASHINGTON, DC—Today Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA), Chair of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness, issued the following statement regarding President Biden's plan to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan by September 11, 2021. "President Biden is right. It is time to bring our troops home from Afghanistan, and for many of us, it is past time. A September 11 deadline for a coordinated departure of American troops, along with the 7,500 NATO troops, should provide sufficient time for a well-planned and appropriately staged withdrawal. "Going forward, American engagement in Afghanistan should continue along the diplomatic, humanitarian, and economic development tracks. It is also time for the U.S. Congress to repeal the 2001 AUMF. All Americans look forward to welcoming our troops home," said Congressman John Garamendi. This press release was produced by the Office of Congressman John Garamendi.
