CULVER CITY, CA — As Minneapolis prosecutors and defense make closing arguments Monday in the murder trial against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, Culver City Police Department shared a statement saying that police are monitoring the situation. The Culver City Police Department has an operations plan in place in case any incidents happen following the verdict. After closing statements Monday, the 12 members of the jury will be sequestered away from friends and family until they make a unanimous decision on the charges. Chauvin faces third-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and second-degree unintentional murder charges in George Floyd's Memorial Day 2020 death. Culver City Department shared the following statement Monday: The Culver City Police Department is closely following the trial involving former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. We will continue to monitor the trial as it progresses. We would like to assure the community that the Culver City Police Department has an operational plan in place and is prepared to appropriately respond to any incidents occurring within our City as a result of the verdict. We will also have additional uniformed patrol officers in the field to respond to calls for service and provide a highly visible presence around the City.As always, the Police Department is committed to working with our City's leadership and our regional partners to ensure our entire community's safety, as well as to recognize and value the rights of all members of the community to peacefully exercise their First Amendment Rights. The Culver City Police Department will always strive to ensure the rights and liberties of all our community members are protected, while providing a high level of safety for all our residents, businesses, and visitors.
