CHARLOTTE, NC — A Charlotte man said he got goosebumps when he realized a $10 scratch off lottery ticket had just made him $1 million richer.
Shane Hypio was sitting in his car outside the Quick Trip on Monroe Road in Matthews when he decided to scratch the 50X The Cash ticket.
"I got to the third number, 23, and when I saw that '1' I said, 'No way,'" he told North Carolina Education Lottery officials. "Then I saw that 'MIL' and I had to take like five minutes to myself. I started getting goosebumps! I couldn't drive for about 15 minutes after that."
Hypio traveled to Raleigh to claim his prize, which he opted to receive in a $600,000 lump sum. After paying required state and federal taxes, he took home $424,503.
"Reality is setting in now," he said. "I feel so blessed."
