UPDATE: The state senator's news conference on Thursday was canceled due to weather. UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A Manhattan state senator is holding a news conference Thursday outside the Trump Hotel on the Upper West Side to demand that the former president drops a lawsuit currently stopping an investigation into his tax returns. State Senator Brad Hoylman, who represents much of Lower Manhattan and is running for Manhattan Borough President, will hold the news conference at 1 Central Park West at noon. He also represents a small section of the Upper West Side. Hoylman authored the TRUST Act in 2019, which allows the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance to share tax return information of certain elected officials and political appointees with a Congressional committee that requests it. "Trump's lawyers are now arguing in federal court that the law no longer applies to him, a desperate argument that flies in the face of the plain language of the statute and legislative intent," a spokesperson from Hoylman's office wrote in a news release. Hoylman will call on Trump to stop fighting access to his tax returns. The news conference is also purposely taking place on April 15 — traditionally Tax Day. You can find out more about Hoylman on his website.
