MICHIGAN — Is Michigan's recent surge in new COVID-19 cases ending? Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appears to think so. Whitmer on Sunday said in an interview on Meet the Press that the state could be seeing a drop in infections after leading the nation's COVID-19 daily case rates for weeks. Michigan is "starting to see the beginning of what could be a slowdown, which is welcome," Whitmer said. The governor did not provide specific data to suggest the state is seeing a drop in new cases, but The Associated Press reported Sunday that the seven-day average positivity rate had dropped in recent days in Michigan to 17.1 percent, citing state data. "We still have some of the strongest mitigation measures in the country," she said. "Mask mandates, capacity limitations, working from home, so we're still doing what we can." Snow Returns This Week Michiganders who put their snow shovels and snowblowers away may want to think again. The state may be getting another batch of snow, in typical Michigan weather fashion. According to the National Weather Service in Detroit, southeast Michigan could see snow as early as Monday. The National Weather Service's 7-day forecast shows that Monday will bring clouds before a chance of snow and rain at night. Rain and snow is a possibility on Tuesday before becoming increasingly likely Tuesday night. From there, things may clear up, according to the forecast, with sunny weather expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
