PHOENIX, AZ — Police are searching for a suspect in a carjacking in an elementary school parking lot in north Phoenix Tuesday morning, Phoenix police said. The carjacking victim, a 17-year-old girl, suffered minor lacerations and was treated on the scene, police said. The incident occurred in the Shaw Butte Elementary School parking lot just after 8 a.m. Tuesday, according to police. No children were endangered during the carjacking, and the school remained open throughout the incident, according to police. A suspect used a knife to get the car, which is described by police as a white 2003 Toyota Avalon sedan with the Arizona license plate ATA-5DWA, police said. Police described the suspect as a 5-foot-11 white man between 30 and 40 weighing about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray T-shirt and blue jeans, according to police. Police said the suspect is armed and dangerous. Police located the suspect car near 23rd Avenue and Cactus Road while responding to a suspicious vehicle report, police said. The driver rammed a police car before fleeing the scene on foot, they said. Anyone with information about the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call Phoenix police immediately.
