Description
On the classical radio station's trivia moment the other night, I learned a new word:
Skeuomorphism.
Isn't that gorgeous? Obviously, it has Greek roots, referencing the terms 'container' and 'shape.'
How does this relate nowadays? Well, it is a neologism from the late 19th century regarding design attributes.
For example: you know how we call computers tablets or notebooks, referring to the modern tools by their older versions? Those are skeuomorphs.
Also, saying that we 'hang up' telephone, when we really are just touching an image (a button, even!) on a screen, is a skeuomorphic reference.
All this knowledge +$3 is going to net me a cup of coffee somewhere. Still: it brought joy.
Best Wishes! Please keep taking good care.
