Hi all, Jake, Lyft driver, here.
Prop 22 has given Lyft drivers guaranteed earnings which work out to $20/hr. You WILL NEVER BE BELOW $20/hr driving for Lyft. Officially, you get 120% the minimum wage plus $.30 a mile. In a 9 hour shift, you drive about 230 miles.
This is how the compensation works. You get your earnings daily, which is fares plus tips. If that amount is below $20/hr, then Lyft pays you the difference every 2 weeks. You can cash out your daily earnings (fares plus tips) immediately.
Usually, though, you are above $20/hr. Right now I'm averaging $25/hr and a few times a week I go over $30/hr. The money is great right now, because there aren't a lot of Lyft drivers so Lyft offers lots of bonuses to incentivize people to drive. Another reason the money is great is because LA traffic is still lighter than normal due to the pandemic so you can drive people around faster than you could normally.
If you don't have a car, you can rent one through the Lyft Express Drive rental program. That's what I do and it works out great.
