Seeking Feral Cat Advisement

I kind of didn't just want to call animal control, but I'm not sure how to handle them myself. There's 3 cats. Not vicious but definitely not pet level friendly at this time. At least one Male, probably all unaltered.. 2 of them have been scrounging around the area for a year already.. should I trap them and try to help them myself? How does all this tnr stuff work? I have 3 cats already. I can't keep them but I want them to have better lives.... Thanks in advance for any helpful information
