Join us for a walking tour of NE Portland led by Kent Ford, founding member of Portland's Black Panther Party. Join Kent Ford, founder of Portland's chapter of the '60s-era black empowerment organization, for a walking tour in NE Portland. Listen to his personal memories of revolutionary activism and community service, and be inspired for today’s fight for change. Prior to the event, tour participants will be given a packet with historical information and a recommended book list for those wanting to learn more. This event is a held in collaboration with Vanport Mosaic. The Walking Tour (~2 miles)We will meet to begin the tour at Matt Dishman Center 77 NE Knott Street and end at King School 4906 NE 6th Avenue (going in the reverse order of the numbers on the map below). The walking tour route is approximately 2 miles one way, and it is recommended (but not required) that participants use a bicycle, scooter, or car to get between the more distant locations to minimize travel time. Tiered Pricing PolicyThe registration fees we are collecting are tiered and will only go to cover the costs associated with hosting the trip and compensating Mr. Ford for his time. Tiered tour pricing: Wayfinding Students and Alumni - $20Wayfinding Crew and Luminaries - $30Extended Community Members - $40 Covid-19 SafetyThis event is scheduled to be in person and outdoors in the Albina neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. All participants of this event will be required to follow our COVID-19 safety measures, which evolve with the recommended guidelines issued by the State of Oregon. One week prior to the event, we will send out the procedures that will be in place during the event (including guidelines around face masks and physical distancing). About Learn & Explore TripsLearn and Explore Trips are opportunities for Wayfinding Academy students and close supporters to engage in intentional travel experiences. Each trip will include learning components and a chance for participants to stretch as they explore places both new and familiar.
