BEWARE! Pet sales and breeding/stud services are not allowed to be posted on Craigslist. Try to imagine where some of these animals are coming from… Puppy mills in the states or across the border, backyard breeders, people trying to make a quick buck. The exploitation of animals is running rampant on CL and has to stop. Please do not support this irresponsible activity and don’t give your money to these people. Don't be fooled by "Re-homing fee" which is just another word for SALE PRICE! Also don't be fooled by fancy names for mixed breed dogs like Maltipoo, Aussiedoodle, Chiweenie, etc. People are purposefully breeding these combinations and then trying to sell them for profit. And there are an overwhelming amount of purebred puppies being posted. Where are all of these parent dogs??? What are their living conditions??? If you want to buy one of these puppies, please go and visit the homes and make sure they are well cared for and not overbred puppy mill situations. A small re homing fee is acceptable to ensure animals go to good homes ($50-$100), but people should not be using Craigslist to profit from their breeding and/or life changes that have made them give up their animals. Also be aware of scams! There have been several posts regarding people taking deposits for non-existent puppies or selling sick puppies. There was also a raid on a horrific puppy mill situation in TJ with 50+ sick, dead or dying dogs and inhumane conditions. And what about the strange emails in the posts? Could be a phishing attempt to get you to respond and then a virus attacks your computer. BE CAUTIOUS! Several ads have been asking for you to email your cell phone number. Sounds very suspicious to me! Somebody that is legitimate would have no problem giving out their own phone number. There are MANY rescued animals in need of homes. Please consider giving a second chance to one of these animals in need. Or, if you are wanting a specific breed, please support a reputable breeder that follows the rules and works hard to preserve the integrity of the breed by selecting for desirable traits. Willy Nilly breeding of purebred dogs can ruin the breed and create health issues and temperament problems. There are also rescue groups for many specific breeds you can support.
