Call for Artists: AlphaLab Gear is now accepting applications for its virtual artist residency. One selected artist will receive a $5,000 stipend, the ability to participate in entrepreneurship and business programming, and access to AlphaLab Gear's network of mentors, partners, customers and community members. AlphaLab Gear is a nationally-ranked program that helps early-stage companies grow from an idea to getting their first products in the hands of paying customers. The AlphaLab Gear Artist in Residence will be an engaged member of the program, making use of the program resources as needed and engaging with startups and mentors. We encourage applications from artists representing a range of perspectives and demographics, and welcome artists engaging in a spectrum of artistic practices and investigating an array of inquiries and concerns. Emerging as well as established artists are invited to apply. Applicants who are enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree programs as of the date of application are ineligible for the residency. Participation requires being a resident of the southwestern Pennsylvania region. The residency begins in May 2021 and concludes in May 2022. During the one year residency, if the AlphaLab Gear accelerator space is able to open for use, the artist will be given studio space to use for the remainder of their residency. A separate space agreement will be put into place and all safety precautions as well as community space guidelines will need to be followed. Application Requirements: Please include the following documents in a slide presentation (Powerpoint or Google Slides accepted), 20 slides max: ● Artist Statement ● Artist Bio and CV ● Statement of Intent for Residency ~500 words. Explain how your presence will impact AlphaLab Gear's community and what you hope to gain from your time in this residency ● Documentation of work (see guidelines below) ● Two references with contact information, phone and email Documentation of work: ● Please label all image slides with First and Last Name, Work Title, Medium, Dimension, Year ● If you are submitting both images and videos, each minute of video should be considered as 1 image. ● Video work or video documentation, max. 10 minutes (Vimeo or Youtube links embedded in presentation) ● Audio work max 10 minutes (web addresses or MOV, WAV, MP3, etc embedded in presentation) Selection Committee: A selection committee will review applicants.
