The 2021 Literacy and Equity Retreat is a time of “rejuvenation” for educators… a time to relax, rethink, recharge and rebuild…. a chance to learn the best practices that can be implemented immediately. The Literacy and Equity Retreat utilizes leaders in the field to go deep into literacy topics of interest and ways to create a more equitable classroom. In our current day and age, sustaining an equitable environment for students requires more than expanding a classroom library. During this health and cultural pandemic we as educators must find new ways to build literacy and cultural responsive practices to build better readers and writers. Today’s literacy educators must find ways to be more inclusive with the structure that governs their shared spaces.
Retreat Focus:
• Walk away with a clearer understanding of today’s literacy standards and strategies to achieve those requirements in the classroom
• Gain a plethora of tools and new instructional strategies for literacy achievement
• Reflect on your current practices of language and literacy instruction
• Social Emotional Learning/Self-Care
• Understanding and Unpacking Standards to Close Gaps
• Culturally Responsive Teaching
• Implicit Bias and Academic Expectations
• Build an understanding of culturally and linguistically responsive teaching practices
• Pioneer equitable instructional practices in language and literacy instruction to lead shifts in your classroom and/or school site
