Description

Seasoned and experienced reggae singer looking to start a new band. In these times of trials and tribulations music is a key to spread messages and positivity. Ideally I would like to start a band from the ground up. I have been writing and also have a repertoire of older written songs. I’ve played and worked with some of the heavyweight reggae bands so I have connections. I’m looking for likeminded people, who would like to play music that heals. Gigs as well as benefits. Must know: reggae first and for most. Be 21 and older. (Just easier for gigs). Bands and music by Tosh, Bob and his sons, Dennis Brown, Bunny Wailer, Gregory Issacs. 70s roots reggae, and know the idea of “one drop”, “dubwise” and “ rhythmwise”. Also be familiar with the Grateful Dead and the idea of improvisation. Must not: be into hard drugs, and have negative energy. I don’t mind alcohol or herb. Anything that grows naturally is ok. Racism of any kind Looking for: Lead guitar: must know reggae and hopefully blues. Preferably 2 leads Rhythm guitar: important in reggae, experience in that needed. Bass: You are the key to this band along with the drums. Must understand reggae/dub, must have communication. And an ear for when music should be into dub or rhythm during live performances. Drum: also the key. The back bone. The heart beat of the band. Anyone who knows reggae will know that the rhythm section needs to be extremely tight. Must know, one drop. Must know Carlton Barrett and his Philosophy of drums. Sly and Robbie as well. Keys: preferably 2. Must know how to bubble! Communicate and of course understand theory and reggae music. Late 70s wailers knowledge preferred. Horns: sax, trumpet, flute ect. Horns are a must! Percussion: this is also important. Knowledge in any type of percussion is fine. Experience necessary. Supporting vocalists: I hate the term (background vocals) that’s not what you are. Looking for 2 to 3 female vocalists. Knowledge in reggae and r & b a must. You will be leading songs as well. This if faith in Jah has it be done, will be a family not a band. We will work together to bring community’s together through Conscious music and righteousness. We will work together to create music that heals and also reveals. Hopefully we will volunteer along the way to help community’s and people in need. If this interests you reach out. Again this is building a band from the ground up, so I know it’s a lot to ask. Especially during a pandemic: but venues are are stating to open outdoor shows. So it’s a good time to begin. One last thing that is a must! Practice practice practice. And most importantly LOVE!
