Coleman camping stove needs TLC

When I connect the hose from the propane tank to the coleman stove and the propane is turned on, Im getting a hissing sound from the coleman stove while its being connected. Im listening for the sound of the burners but instead hearing the hissing and smelling propane. I bought 2 brand new stoves and both of them are doing the same thing. I bought new hoses and using the attachment the coleman provides to connectbto their stove. My question is how do I stop the propane hissing sound? Im wiggling it around and nothing working.
