Peralta Community College District LIFEGUARD Laney College Aquatics Area Laney College is looking for skilled lifeguards to ensure the safety of the students in our Aquatics Classes. Shifts generally range from 2-4 hours between 5:50am –3:00pm; and 5:00pm – 7:00pm Mondays – Thursday with additional shifts Friday between 9:00am – 3pm. A benefit of working as a lifeguard at Laney College is free tuition on classes! We have two outdoor pools, with adult instruction classes and teams. You can enjoy a relaxed environment to work in, plus the benefit of attending classes if you like. Shifts are available year-round in a semester-by-semester schedule. Under supervision of the Dean of Student Services, in conjunction with Aquatics Coordinator, lifeguards ensure the safety of individuals using the campus swimming pool. Enforce safety pool rules and regulations. Perform first aid and emergency rescues. Check pool chemistry and perform other related work as required. Examples of Duties • Follow all procedures in the Emergency Action Plan (EAP). • Monitor participants in the competition pool and training pool during aquatic classes and activities. • Perform any necessary rescue procedures or care to distressed or injured participants according to American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification Protocols. • Ensure all preventative measures are taken for participant safety • Monitor and Correct any participant behavior that may endanger them or other pool participants • Activate the EMS chain in the event of an emergency according to Emergency Action Plan • Complete Opening/ Closing Procedures for Pool Area – Uncover/ Re-cover pool covers; manage equipment storage, lights, and emergency equipment. • Manage pool equipment for classes (kickboards/ fins/ etc) • Educate pool participants about pool rules, lane etiquette, and all applicable safety procedures. • Enforce Pool Rules • Maintain organization and cleanliness of pool area and associated areas (pool office/ storage room) • Check pool chemical composition for the safety of participants • Complete all necessary administrative paperwork: Timesheets, Accident/ Incident forms. • Keep current in all certifications and review lifeguard training guidelines and procedures regularly. • Attend Laney Lifeguard Training and Staff Meetings • Assist in maintaining all aquatic safety equipment standards (emergency equipment/ first aid kits). • Comply with all applicable pool regulations/ standards for county pool inspections. Required Licenses/Certificates • Current Lifeguard Certification • CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certificate • First Aid Certificate Preferred Experience Previous Lifeguarding experience, and Title 22 Certification Pay Rate: $13.69 - $15.88 To Apply Email cover letter and resume
