Description
Hello. This post is going to be a long read but if you’re interested in the beauty above it may be worth your time. I adopted this tortoise from a pet shop back in October. In all honesty I have never had much interest in tortoises but I am a huge animal lover and I could tell she was not well. So I took her home. After getting her seen by a vet it was confirmed she had severe pneumonia & she was extremely malnourished. She also had bad intestinal parasites. After multiple trips to the vet, antibiotic injections, oral parasitic medications, an improved diet, & environment. She is a whole new tortoise. However, is still battling a few minor issues. But I can get into that more if you’re seriously interested so let me get to the point. After nursing her back to health & learning about red foot tortoises as I go; I am realizing that I really do not have the ability to give her the life she really deserves, especially long-term. However, because of the condition I got her in I have grown a close bond with her. This has been a hard decision for me. But I am willing to rehome her to the right person. I will ask questions. And I will only rehome her to someone who has prior experience & knowledge about this specific species. Also I will not let her go to anyone whom can only provide what I am currently providing, which is the bare minimum. Her homemade bio active enclosure I built is only about 4x5 ft. Not big enough for her to thrive in. Ideally an outdoor enclosure would be best for her. Keep in mind if you know anything about the species they require high humidity so you would have to maintain that. I want her to go to someone who can provide much more than I can. Not less. She’s already suffered which is why I don’t want her to go to a tortoise newbie & possibly endure amateur mistakes. She’s been through enough. If you’re interested in learning more about her & possibly making her a part of your family please reach out to me. I am not in a rush and I am not very concerned about a rehoming fee at the moment. My main concern is finding her the perfect forever home. A person or family that will commit to caring for her for the 50+ years they can live. If you’re just trying to find a tortoise on Craigslist to come pick up asap this is not the post for you. Please only message me if you have prior experience with Redfoot tortoises & you’re willing to chat. Please include your experience as well. Thank you for your time, patience, & understanding.
