Summary:Reporting to the Security Supervisor, the Security Officer – Maritime is a vital team member providing security services to the prestigious Duluth Seaway Port Authority. The Maritime Security Officer is responsible for performing Maritime Access Control protocol, enforcing required security policies and procedures, and performing required inspections. Job Responsibilities:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job responsibilities.Performs roving foot patrol and escorts, including over uneven surfaces and stairsEnforces all required security policies and procedures pursuant to the facility security planConfirms TWIC card requirements for all persons entering propertyIdentifies authorization of vehicles and people entering port property and restricted areasObtains and documents required information in maintaining accurate Access Control LogsProvides directions and instructions to visitors, vendors and contractorsPerforms authorization and inspections as required for vendors, contractors, vehicles, baggage and containersMonitors CCTV and alarmsPerforms guard desk duty, monitoring entrances and exits Performs emergency communication procedures as requiredFollows notification and call-out protocols in Port Security incidentsCommunicates using internal phone systems and radioProvides vehicle escorts and traffic control functions as requiredMaintains proper key control at all timesCommunicates openly with facility management and employeesParticipates in required security drills and exercisePromptly processes routine paperworkMaintain safe driving practices and vehicle care procedures as requiredCreate a positive working environment and strong teamworkEnsures compliance with all GSSC policies and procedures, federal regulations, state statutes, and specifications per client contractsAll other duties, as assigned Minimum qualifications include the following:Must have a High school diploma or equivalentMust be able to read, write and speak EnglishA US Citizen or Alien lawfully authorized to work I the United StatesMust pass State & Federal background checks and drug screenAbility to meet and maintain applicable state, county, and municipal licensing requirementsExcellent communication (verbal and written), administrative, customer service and organizational skillsMust successfully complete GSSC Basic TrainingBasic computer skillsAbility to demonstrate critical thinkingAbility to project a professional and positive attitude while maintaining confidentialityMust possess a TWIC card or obtain one within one month Physical, Mental and Environmental Requirements:With or without reasonable accommodation, the physical and mental requirements of the job may include the following:Seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly.Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling.Frequent sitting, standing, and walking, which may be required for long periods of time, and may involve climbing stairs and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain.Frequent lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds.Must be able to push, pull or drag and adult to safety from hazardous situations.Although most work is performed inside, occasional outside activities are subject to seasonal temperature fluctuations.Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for extended periods of time, while frequently safely entering and exiting the motor vehicle.
