Description
I am looking for a person available mornings (Mon-Sat) for a caretaker (Race Horse Groom) position for a standardbred race horse stable. Work starts by 7 and ends when you finish (usually 3-5 hours). This will be a summer job starting early May through September.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
• stall and bucket cleaning
• harnessing horses
• horse bathing
• brushing
• leading
• leg care
• barn cleanup
This is a unique opportunity for someone looking for a summer job and great learning experience. I am looking for someone with horse care experience either from a horse stable, or private ownership/care of horses – you should be able to already lead, brush and have experience with basic footcare of horses. You must be able to lift and carry #60. The role requires a reliable person with reliable transportation as they will be the primary caretaker of these animals. I am looking for someone that can deliver their responsibilities with minimal supervision and has a dedication/love for horses. The job is salaried at $300 a week, with additional income opportunities available race evenings.
For those unaware: Standardbreds are not thoroughbreds. The Standardbred is an American horse breed best known for its ability in harness racing, where members of the breed compete at either a trot or pace. They are solid, well-built horses with good dispositions. ()
The job is located in Marengo close to the I-90 interchange.
COVID-19: This is an outdoor/barn based in-person role. You are allowed to wear a mask if you wish.
