*Applications are only accepted online at www.gswcf.org/careers * POSITION SUMMARY: The Horseback Riding Instructor/ Assistant Riding Instructor provides direct implementation of the horse program for participants varying in age from entering 1st grade to 12th grade. Responsible for basic to advanced horse activities and will infuse and model the Girl Scout Law into their everyday work to fulfill the mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place. MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES When acting as lead instructor, ensures arena and horses are prepared for riding. Teaches the equestrian program. Ensures safety and equipment checks are completed every time a rider mounts. Assesses rider’s skills at the beginning and end of each session. Understands herd and equipment management. Assists in record keeping as requested by the Equestrian Manager. Performs feeding, mucking, and light barn-related tasks as directed by the Equestrian Manager. Follow all camp rules and staff policies. Maintain a positive attitude and professional manner with girls, parents, volunteers, and staff. Complete paperwork as designated by the Equestrian Manager. QUALIFICATIONS: • 18+ preferred, 16+ required • Experience in horsemanship, teaching experience preferred • Experience working with youth; Girl Scout experience preferred • Excellent verbal communication skills • First Aid and CPR certification preferred • Ability to attend a council-specific riding training • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds. • Ability to analyze, plan, and accept directions. • Ability to work with paid and volunteer staff. • Must be able to walk, bend, stoop, sit and lift for extended periods of time. • Must be able to work in the outdoors in extreme temperatures for extended periods of time. Physical requirements of camp staff positions include prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching; requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to utilize camp equipment; requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs; willing to live in a camp setting and work extended hours; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, horses etc. GSWCF is an equal opportunity employer.
