Hutchins Farm is one of the oldest and largest certified organic vegetable and fruit operations in Massachusetts. Organic since 1973, Hutchins grows over 35 acres of vegetables, about an acre of small fruit, and 8 acres of apples. We sell our produce directly to consumers at our farm stand in Concord, MA, and at three weekly farmers’ markets, with a small amount of sales to local restaurants. FARMERS MARKET SUPERVISOR: Hutchins Farm is seeking a motivated, outgoing individual to help manage our three Farmers’ Market stalls. The Farmers’ Market Supervisor will work under the direction of the Marketing and Business Manager to ensure that our farmers’ market stalls run smoothly and are welcoming to customers. The FM Supervisor will lead a crew member at each market in all tasks related to the market, ensuring the market is run efficiently and correctly, while maintaining a positive and supportive work environment. The Farmers’ Market Supervisor will be responsible for: -Packing and driving the market van safely -Setting up our farmers’ market stalls correctly at each different market location -Building displays and ensuring the correct signage -Supervising an assistant crew member -Ringing up customers’ purchases accurately and efficiently -Keeping the sales area clean and welcoming -Adhering to all Covid-19 procedures as dictated by individual market rules -Keeping the market van clean and organized -Ensuring that tasks are completed correctly, efficiently, and safely with attention to Hutchins’ standards. -Communicating to customers the latest news and updates about produce availability, adverse growing conditions, or other relevant information. -Communicating to the Marketing and Business Manager any important information about the day’s market -Maintaining a safe work environment, including reinforcing Hutchins Farm’s policies as laid out in the employee handbook. Schedule: -The farmers’ market season runs from the end of May through the end of October, applicants must be able to work the full season. -Hours are usually as follows: Mondays 9:00am – 7:30pm, Thursdays 12pm – 7:30pm, Saturdays 6:00am – 3:00pm -If full-time (5 days) employment if preferred, two additional days a week can be added by working on the field crew or taking some shifts on the farmstand crew. Qualifications: -Experience in customer service and excellent customer service skills -Excellent communications and time management skills -Ability to quickly pick up new concepts and techniques, and then teach them to others -Valid driver’s license and an excellent driving record -Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly -Friendly, helpful demeanor -An interest in local and organic food -Basic mental math skills -Ability to work well in a team atmosphere -Must be able and feel comfortable driving a 18 foot van in and out of Cambridge, including parking in difficult conditions. Pay is $15/hour with a $0.50 per-hour-worked year-end bonus contingent on completion of the season, plus vegetables from the farm. Housing is not available.
