More Than an Interstate is a FREE one-day event to learn about the Central 70 Project and walk on the new lowered lanes of I-70. REGISTRATION REQUIRED Join the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Central 70 Project for a FREE, one-day museum-like exhibit called "More Than an Interstate: Inside Colorado’s Largest Transportation Project." As you walk through the 25 station exhibits on the new lanes of I-70 spanning from Brighton Boulevard to Clayton Street, you’ll learn more about the history of Colorado and the Globeville, Elyria-Swansea neighborhoods, the origins of the interstate system and the need for the Central 70 Project. Be a part of Denver’s history before traffic is shifted onto these lanes and the 57-year-old viaduct is demolished. Bring a good pair of sneakers to walk more than half a mile through the exhibits and observe how crews expertly maneuvered around the existing I-70 viaduct to build the lowered section and new bridges over the interstate. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to discover the past and celebrate the future before the Mile High Shift...you’ll even get some bragging rights when you pick up friends and family from the airport and tell them you got to walk on I-70 before it was open to traffic as you drive through the new lowered section. Exhibit audio guides will be available in English and Spanish. Food truck purchases will be available. All current state and local COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
