SCOPE / POSITION OVERVIEW The Equipment Operator I is a seasonal, entry-level position and is specifically trained to operate specialized equipment and/or to perform specific tasks relative to the maintenance of the golf course grounds. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  Maintain logs for the operation, maintenance, and gas usage of each machine.  Perform daily tasks necessary to keep the maintenance facility clean, organized, and safe.  Clean machinery after each use.  Inspect all machines and report any deficiencies to the Equipment Technician.  Perform other functions and routine golf course maintenance activities as directed by the Director of Golf Course Maintenance Operations, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent I or Assistant Golf Course Superintendent II.  Be thoroughly trained for the procedures at each task prior to performing task.  Follow the guidelines in the Golf Course Maintenance Operations Manual for each specific task.  Be able to perform specific tasks relative to Operator I training including: o Walk mow greens. o Flymow and/or rotary mow steep banks, bunker faces, and small turf areas. o Line trim trees, shrubs, posts, etc. o Edge cart paths, sprinkler heads, bunkers, etc. o Ball mark repair. o Divot filling. o Sod laying. o Utility vehicle operations. o Blower operations. o Hand raking bunkers. o Sump Pump. o Miscellaneous hand tool operations.  Required to wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment to comply with established safety operating standards.  Be 18 years old and be able to operate a motor vehicle. PHYSICAL, MENTAL & VISUAL SKILLS  Good organizational skills.  Ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems.  Ability to carry out detailed written or verbal instructions independently.  Ability to visually inspect golf course conditioning and club house grounds.  Ability to perform heavy physical work, may be required to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping for up to five (5) hours without sitting. EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT & WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE High school education or equivalent preferred. The ability to understand and follow directions and operate golf course machinery, plus the successful completion of the Equipment Operator I training program. First Aid certified. Must be 18 years old and be able to operate a motor vehicle/have valid driver’s license. WORKING CONDITIONS Works primarily outdoors on golf course and clubhouse grounds. Potential exposure to inclement weather, equipment movement hazards and dangerous chemicals/solvents, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers if proper safety procedures are not followed.
