Division: Brannan Sand + Gravel Position: Grading Laborer Reports To: Foreman FLSA Status: Full Time Location: Various Denver Metro Locations Position Summary: This is an opportunity where hard work-ethic, dependability, and eagerness to learn are necessary to have a successful further in the Road Paving and Materials Manufacturing business. It is our desire to hire employees who have a willingness to learn and aspiration to increase skills and experience in a hands-on working environment. General Responsibilities: As a Grading Laborer at Brannan, you will be responsible for taking direction from superiors in the application of asphalt and aggregate materials; we build and pave roads! In your first season you can expect to learn the following: • Walk the site with grading operator prior to the start of each shift to identify and correct all potential jobsite hazards. Also identify concerns and any impediments to the grading plan. • Check existing conditions for pre-existing damage such as that to curb and gutters, cross pans, edges, etc. • Participate in daily huddle. • Understand grading starting point and grading plan for the shift. • Get tools and materials out of service truck at shift’s start and stage for grading – (i.e. shovels, rakes, brooms, etc). • Assist grading operator with measuring and marking manholes and water valve boxes on concrete. • Collect material tickets from delivery trucks. • Work with grading foreman and operator to perform tasks as needed throughout the day (i.e. cleaning curb and gutters, exposing manholes and water valves that get covered with dirt, being the eyes on the ground for the operators, etc). • Communicate any issues, concerns or problems to grading foreman throughout the shift. • Assist with equipment cleanup, jobsite cleanup and work area cleanup at the end of shift. • Ensure the water truck’s water system is properly drained at the end of shift in cold weather to protect from freezing. Also drain water truck before equipment move. • Put all tools and unused materials back on service truck at shift’s end – (i.e. shovels, rakes, brooms, etc). Functional Responsibilities: • Safety is always # 1 at Brannan – It’s required that you properly wear all PPE, participate in safety programs and trainings to maintain necessary credentials, use proper lock-out/tag-out and confined space entry procedures, be knowledgeable about working around heavy equipment in a mining environment, use proper lifting techniques, and always keep an awareness of your surroundings • Show up to work every day, and on time every day • No use of cell phone during the work shift This position is what you make of it!! Qualifications: • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times. • Must be at least 18 years of age • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation • Must be willing to work nights and weekends if or when necessary. • Report to the assigned job site in proper attire and ready to begin work at the designated start time. • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures!! • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. • Must be able to pass a drug screen, we comply with federal regulations!
