Description

Did you know that artichokes are the highest in antioxidants and score extremely high in nutritional value, compared to all other veggies? Artichokes have been my favorite vegetable my whole life. A real treat to include in meals. I eat them year round and when in season, one or two a day, several times a week. I like to steam a pot full and refrigerate them, than they are ready to eat for a snack, include in omelettes, dips and add to the dinner plate. They are every bit as good cold, as hot. And melted butter and mayonnaise make great accompanied dips. So many herbs and spices to add to provide more nutritional value, too. My small South Bay coastal farm, the Blue Wave Victory Garden, is growing several artichoke varieties and many huge plants, 7' tall and 10' round, are producing dozens of artichokes, now! I have been eating my artichokes at about half the size of the tougher large ones typically found in stores. The leaves of mine are tender and meatier, take much less time to cook and the choke is edible, so no need to spend time removing it, thus a couple extra bites and nutrition. They are delicious! The following produce is also available at this time if you'd like a variety: Arugula, beets and beet greens, Brussels sprouts, cilantro, lettuces, spinach, Swiss chard, curly kale and tree collard. Prices per bunch are about half the price as in stores. You'll be able to get plenty to preserve, if available. If you'd like a bouquet, I'm harvesting snapdragons, sweet peas, bachelor buttons, forget-me-not, calendula and asparagus fronds. Bring your vase. Prices start at $10, depending on your vase size. In addition, I have many seedlings available looking for homes. They will be dug up from their volunteer locations. The following you are welcome to for $1 each: fennel, Shirley poppy, broccoli, nasturtium, calendula, cilantro, arugula, Swiss chard, love-in-a-mist and possibly others. $40 minimum cash purchase. Reservations required. Hours 9AM - 3PM daily. Soon, my Blue Wave Victory Garden, a not-for-profit organic farm in coastal South Bay, will be offering outdoor cooking demos, showcasing the current produce, featuring San Diego chefs from restaurants and ghost kitchens. Of course the prepared dishes will be shared with all in attendance. The Blue Wave Victory Garden is designed as an edible maze venue, for subscribing patrons to enjoy communing in nature, relaxing, picnics, birding, sunbathing, exercising via the horse and bike trails to the beach and socializing safely. And of course taking home veggies and flowers. Produce is donated to those financially challenged that come to the farm to take delivery. Eventually, there will be a delivery service to various locations. My farm is expanding to a N County coastal location to provide organic food there and is seeking an apropos site now. For a limited time, veggies and flowers are being offered without a CSA (community supported agriculture) subscription. Come out and see what this early retired, Boomer gal is doing and support the cause by buying some produce for yourself, family and friends. Soon you may subscribe and join the farm in even more meaningful ways. Many perks will be offered. Donations and volunteers are always welcome, too. A gourmet brunch and/or dinner are offered for those who help for a minimum of 3 hours. No shortage of projects! Again, reservations are accepted from 10AMish to 3PMish, daily. Please email introducing yourself, with day and time you'd like to buy produce and we'll have a phone chat to confirm your reservation. Thanks and Be Healthy!
