PITTSBURGH, PA — Despite playing a shortened schedule with no fans in attendance at PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates value increased two percent in the past year, according to Forbes. The team is valued at $1.28 billion. That ranks the Pirates 22nd out of Major League Baseball's 30 teams. The New York Yankees are the most valuable franchise with a worth of $5.2 billion. Although most teams lost revenue last year, Forbes said that did did not prevent team values from increasing to an all-time-high average of $1.9 billion. That's a 3 percent increase over a year ago. According to Forbes, large stock market increases have helped increase team values by creating potential wealth for potential team buyers and increasing the revenues at which many teams are appraised.
