Framingham To Begin Second Phase Of Transportation 'Road Map'

FRAMINGHAM, MA — If you've ever sat for too long at the intersection of Route 135 and Route 126, taken a white-knuckle bike ride down Winter Street or had to walk in the gutter along Irving Street, you'll want to pay attention to Framingham's transportation master plan process. Framingham will embark on the second of three phases of the city's transportation master plan (TMP) in April with a series of public forums. The result will be a document exploring all the possible transportation enhancements that could be made across Framingham. Framingham began the transportation master plan process in 2016, and published Phase 1 of the study in 2017. That 150-page document covered the existing transportation conditions in the city — including many of the faults. Sidewalks and street crossings out of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), misalignment between commuter rail and MWRTA bus schedules and a general lack of safe bike routes were just some issues — although some enhancements have been made since the first phase TMP came out. Following phase two, the third phase of the TMP will focus on how to pay for transportation improvements. The first public meeting of the second TMP phase will happen virtually on April 26. The forum will review the first phase of TMP with the Department of Public Works and the consultant, VHB. The topics of the next three forums will be released later, according to DPW.
