A Cafe’s ongoing collaboration with Jazz In The Neighborhood’s Guaranteed Fair Wage Fund program. JITN is a nonprofit that helps ensure fair guaranteed pay for professional jazz players, allowing small venues to feature top players. In lieu of passing the hat for tips, participating venues sell tickets or collect donations to support their music programs and treat musicians like the working pros they are. Word’s shows are free but we ask for a $10-$20 sliding scale donation, and a two-drink minimum or purchase of an entree during performances. Venmo is a great way to donate: @wordacafe Due to the current pandemic restrictions, all our performances are outdoors, with seating on our heated dining platforms or along the sidewalk. Dress warmly! Limited seating is also available inside and on our new private courtyard and deck behind the cafe. We feature a full bar, draft beer and dinner menu. Food service generally stops about an hour before doors close no later than 10 p.m. Our next performances include: Vocalist Loretta Gooden, Friday April 23; Charles Unger Experience, Friday April 30; Jonah Cabral Trio, a special Thursday night show on May 6; and the Simon Rowe Organ Trio on Friday May 7 featuring Lyle Link on saxophone, Sylvia Cuenca on drums and Simon Rowe on Hammond Organ.
