Your Arlington Last Updated: 12 April 2021 Written by town website Community members are welcome to join the Arlington Human Rights Commission and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division for "Stand Against Racism: Elevating AAPI Voices," a moderated discussion on racism against the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Community and how we can stand against hate, misogyny and making fetishes of Asian women in popular culture and historical narratives. The event is set for 7 p.m. Monday, April 12. The virtual panel aims to elevate voices in the AAPI community across the state and in Arlington, and will include leadership from the Chinese Progressive Association of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Asian Pacific Islander Civic Action Network (APIsCAN), the Massachusetts Asian American Commission (AAC) and youth voices from Arlington High School. Town staff participates in Stand Against Racism campaign This month the Town of Arlington is joining the Alliance of YWCAs of MA's Stand Against Racism campaign for April 2021. Organized by the town's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Division, the campaign includes throughout the month a number of town departments internally holding conversations about race. Some discussions are based on topics of choice by departments and others are focused discussions on the curated content provided by YW Boston. Staff members are exploring issues of racial equity and are taking this opportunity to learn how to advance racial equity within their work. As these discussions progress throughout the month, expect to see pledge boards by town staff on the town's social-media channels (Facebook and Twitter) and website at arlingtonma.gov/dei. The online pledge boards will display commitments made by town staff to stand against racism.
