ANDOVER, MA — The Andover School Committee picked Magda Parvey as the district's next superintendent Monday. The Committee voted to enter negotiations with Parvey, the chief academic officer of Middletown Public Schools in Middletown, Connecticut. She was selected over Portsmouth, New Hampshire Superintendent Stephen Zadravec. The committee's meeting was supposed to be broadcast live on Andover TV Monday, but was plagued with technical difficulties and only a few minutes were available. The district posted the meeting video Tuesday morning. "Through a rigorous interview process, Dr. Parvey shared her vision of collaborative leadership and her deep commitment to student-centric decisions," the School Committee said. "She is intent on promoting a culture of continuous learning, positive and professional engagement, and open communication." Parvey was selected to replace Sheldon Berman as permanent superintendent, after Berman resigned at the end of 2020. Claudia Bach currently serves as the interim superintendent. Prior to her current role in Middletown, Parvey was the chief academic officer and interim superintendent in New Rochelle, New York and the assistant superintendent in North Carolina's Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District. She has also been a teacher, assistant principal and principal. "We are excited to welcome Dr. Parvey to Andover, and we look forward to her leadership in service to our students," the School Committee said.
