HUNTINGTON, NY — Huntington Hospital paused its vaccination efforts after United States health officials recommended a "pause" on administering the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The hospital first offered Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine doses to postpartum patients on Friday. Vaccines were available to hospitalized patients upon discharge since March. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which offers a single-shot dosage compared to the two-shot Moderna and Pfizer vaccines, is being investigated for reports of potentially dangerous blood clots, the AP reported. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration, in a joint statement Tuesday, said they were looking into unusual clots in six women that occurred 6 to 13 days after they were vaccinated. The clots appeared in veins that drain blood from the brain and occurred together with low platelets. All six cases were in women between the ages of 18 and 48.
