Description

Cassandra Sage has launched a bid for a second term representing district three on the Lake Washington School Board, highlighting equity and COVID-19 recovery among her top priorities. Sage was first elected in 2017 and will be on the ballot for reelection in November. Lake Washington is the state's second-largest school district, serving more than 31,000 students in Kirkland, Redmond and parts of Sammamish. In her official campaign announcement, Sage said the coronavirus pandemic revealed growing gaps for students across demographics. "Every student must have the opportunity to access effective supports to recover academically, socially and emotionally from the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic," Sage said. "As education leaders, we need to build upon the Multi-tiered Systems of Support that we offer students. We must innovate our approaches to lead students to successful outcomes in a changed world." Part of that work, Sage said, includes creating an equity policy to guide the district with a clear set of goals to ensure success for all students. Sage, a resident of Kirkland, also serves as the school board's legislative representative, tasked with coordinating efforts with elected officials at every level. Before her election in 2017, she served on PTSA boards for nearly three decades and filled advisory roles for Seattle Children's Hospital.
