JOB TITLE: Church Custodian JOB CLASSIFICATION: Part-time hourly employee (15-18 hours) HOURLY RATE: $19.50/hour GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The church custodian is responsible for providing church members, visitors, and staff with a clean, orderly place to meet, worship, and work. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple assignments • Ability to prioritize routine work and deadlines • Ability to make basic repairs, as needed • Ability to adjust schedule to meet the needs of the church • Ability to move heavy items (tables, chairs, etc.) PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work with a broadly diversified range of people • Must be an effective communicator who is flexible, friendly, tactful, compassionate, approachable, and honest JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: • Ensure that all areas are cleaned and properly stocked with the necessary items. • Maintain clean church facilities by performing weekly duties in all public areas of the building, including: --Bathrooms: clean sinks, disinfect toilets, empty trash, wipe mirrors, and mop floor. Refill paper products and soap dispensers, as needed. --Parking Lot Entrance & Offices: empty trash, vacuum carpets, mop hard floors, dust and wipe down surfaces, including mirrors and doors. --Kitchen: empty trash, mop floor, wipe down counters and sinks o Fellowship Hall: empty trash, dust & mop as needed, and take down & set up chairs and tables for weekly use. --Sanctuary & Atrium (including balcony, sound room, foyer): empty trash, vacuum floors, clean trash and other items from pews, clean pew surfaces as needed, dust windowsills and stage, wipe down railings in atrium. --Classrooms & Hallways: empty trash, vacuum/mop floors, straighten tables and chairs, wipe door knobs and windows. • Remove leaves and other debris that pile up by the doors under the front and back porticos. • Place salt on sidewalks as needed when ice/snow is present. • Adjust thermostats as needed for events throughout the week. • Take inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and submit a request with appropriate office staff when items need to be replenished. • Observe proper handling instructions when working with cleaning agents. • Perform basic maintenance, such as changing light bulbs and other minor repairs. • Communicate with the church facilities team and the office staff when more involved repairs are needed from outside vendors. • Assist with event set-up and clean-up, including taking down/setting up walls in fellowship hall, and moving around tables and chairs. • Keep track of the church calendar and communicate with the appropriate staff in the office weekly for any instructions or set-up needed for events on the calendar. • Perform other related tasks in order to support the needs of church members and staff under the direction of the staff supervisor.
