A 1-day, hands-on workshop focused on teaching Social-Emotional Learning in the school garden and gateway projects to kickstart gardening. Who: K-8 TeachersSchool personnel and Volunteers interested in school gardensExtension staff who work with schools/school gardensWhat: One day professional development workshop with hand-on activities, make-and-take demonstrations and door prizes! Focus area 1: Gateways to School Gardens Whether you are looking for a small project to get started and build excitement about learning through gardening, something for the "off season," or just a complementary garden project, these are options we've had experience with. We'll cover logistics, connect to state standards and set you on the path to success. MicrogreensTower garden/aeroponicsBucket gardensMini raised bedsFocus area 2: Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) in the Garden The importance of social and emotional learning in the life of a student is now being recognized as a factor for academic and life success. Research supports improved social-emotional learning in students who are involved in gardens and gardening experiences. We'll look at each of these SEL areas and explore how they can be incorporated in the garden learning experience. Additional Considerations: Certificates for CEUs available. Be prepared to be outside. Dress for the weather. Bring a hat and a water/refillable bottle.
