Description
AUSTIN, TX — Walgreens will open six new coronavirus testing locations at its Austin stores as part of its initiative to offer more diagnostic tests nationwide.
As of May 1, the retailer will go from more than 5,000 of its pharmacies nationwide offering diagnostic tests to 6,000 test locations, with more than half in socially vulnerable areas.
Six stores in the Austin area will be among the new test locations, increasing the total number of stores in the market offering drive-thru COVID-19 diagnostic tests to 51. These tests will be available at no cost to those in need, officials said.
Since Walgreens began COVID-19 testing last April, the company has administered more than 6 million diagnostic tests and can administer approximately 3 million tests a month, more than tripling its testing capacity since last year.
The pharmacy retailer has added more than 3,600 additional testing sites since Jan. 1.
