Description

Join us for our volunteer-run Point-in-Time Homelessness Count for Eagle Rock & Highland Park for 2021! THURSDAY APRIL 29th 2021 @ 7pm Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) cancelled their annual Homeless Count. The Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council & Highland Park Neighborhood Council have decided to follow the lead of other Los Angeles neighborhoods and step up to fill that gap this year. The Count is an important tally of the homelessness crisis in our city. We want to acknowledge the need of those living unhoused to be counted and seen so that there is a better chance that they will receive the services they need. We believe that a lack of a Homelessness Count in 2021 will amount to a failure to reveal poverty and struggles that would otherwise remain hidden. Please join us! We need volunteers to cover 33 Census Tracts across Eagle Rock & Highland Park. THE SIGN-UP PROCESS: IMPORTANT: Please only register for open Pods AKA those without any other tickets already claimed. Each Pod will only be made up of volunteers who have agreed to work together on a Tract. - Choose your neighborhood! We have 13 tracts to cover in Eagle Rock, and 20 tracts to cover in Highland Park - Assemble your team! Each "Pod" should only contain volunteers that acknowledge they are safe to ride together in an enclosed vehicle during the Count. If you'd like to create a Pod between volunteers who are not within your usual COVID 19-safe circles, it can be arranged that one volunteer will do the driving, while the other will remotely follow along to log the Count data Each "POD" is a car with a driver, a navigator and counter. 2 to 4 people can sign up together for the available Pods. We ask that volunteers only sign up together if they acknowledge they are safe to ride together. If you'd like to create a Pod between volunteers who are not within your usual COVID 19-safe circles, it can be arranged that one volunteer will do the driving, while the other will remotely follow along to log the Count data. Volunteers in each pod will be given a census tract map and drive along the route of each map. Volunteers must stay inside the car while counting. A tally sheet will be provided so that driver, navigator and counter will count all tents, shelter structures, RVs, vans, and cars according to the description on the tally sheet. - Prep for Thursday April 29th! We will send along all needed materials to prepare for the night of the Count, including an informational video. We will also hold an April 28th Zoom Meeting for those who want to meet their fellow volunteers and go over the process in full!
